The American Legion Kerr-Lewis Scholarship

Introduction

Through the generous contributions of the Kerr and Lewis families, whose American Legion Legacy endowments have played a vital role, and with the ongoing support from members of Post 315, it is with great pride that I announce the Kerr-Lewis Scholarship for 2026. This year, we are pleased to offer four scholarships, each valued at $1,000. For further details, please refer to our Information Sheet by clicking the button below. Be sure to review this material carefully before submitting your application.

Application Process and Essay Requirement

In previous years, applicants were asked to write a short essay on the topic of Americanism. However, we have made a change to the application process for this year. Instead of the traditional essay, candidates are now required to conduct an interview with a Veteran and write an essay reflecting on what they learned from the conversation. Please do not feel anxious about the interview—approach it as though you are having a friendly discussion with someone you know well, and you will do just fine. To assist you, the use of audio recorders is permitted.

Important Reminders

We anticipate receiving a record number of applications this year, so we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible.
